Asbestos removal on the Gold Coast

Hazclear Environmental provides licensed asbestos removal across the Gold Coast. We hold both Class A (friable) and Class B (bonded) removal licences and deliver removal works for residential, commercial and construction projects throughout the region.

The Gold Coast’s 1960s to 1980s building boom produced a large volume of homes, apartment blocks and commercial properties that contain asbestos. As these buildings are renovated, stripped out or demolished for redevelopment, asbestos removal is required before work can proceed. Hazclear services the entire Gold Coast from Coolangatta to Coomera and across the hinterland.

Common removal projects on the Gold Coast

Residential renovations

Bathroom and kitchen renovations, re-roofing, internal strip-outs and extensions on Gold Coast homes built between the 1960s and 1990s. Common materials removed include fibre-cement wall and ceiling linings, eaves panels, wet-area sheeting and vinyl floor tiles. A detailed explanation of how removal works is available in our asbestos removal guide.

Apartment and unit complexes

Removal of asbestos from common areas, individual units, plant rooms, stairwells and external cladding in older low-rise and mid-rise apartment buildings. These projects require coordination with body corporates, property managers and other trades working in the building. Hazclear provides air monitoring and clearance to confirm the building is safe for reoccupation after removal.

Demolition and redevelopment

Older beachside homes, motels and commercial buildings across the Gold Coast are regularly demolished for higher-density redevelopment. Pre-demolition asbestos removal is required before any structure containing asbestos can be demolished. Hazclear provides the pre-demolition assessment, removal and clearance so the demolition contractor can proceed.

Roofing

Corrugated asbestos cement roofing on older Gold Coast homes and outbuildings. Roof removals are coordinated with the roofing contractor so re-roofing follows directly after clearance.

Soil and site contamination

Redevelopment sites on the Gold Coast may contain asbestos in soil from previously demolished structures or imported fill. Hazclear provides soil assessment, removal and validation for contaminated land.

Frequently asked questions

How much does asbestos removal cost on the Gold Coast?
As a general guide, bonded asbestos removal typically ranges from $50 to $250 per square metre depending on the type, quantity, accessibility and condition of the material. Friable removal is significantly more expensive due to the additional controls required. A detailed breakdown is available on our cost guide page. Contact us for a site-specific quote.
Do I need testing before removal?
In most cases, yes. Asbestos must be identified before work that may disturb it. If you already have a current asbestos report, a new one may not be required. If no report exists, testing should be arranged first.
Can removal be done in an occupied apartment building?
Yes, with appropriate controls. The work area is isolated from occupied parts of the building, barricaded and signed. For friable removal, an enclosure and negative pressure are used to contain the work area. Air monitoring confirms that controls are effective. The scope and method are discussed with the body corporate or property manager before work begins.
How long does removal take?
A straightforward bonded removal may take one to three days depending on the scope. Larger projects, apartment complex work or friable removal take longer. We confirm the expected duration when quoting.
What documentation do I receive?
The full documentation package: Asbestos Removal Control Plan, clearance certificate, waste tracking certificates and disposal records. These should be retained for the life of the property. A full description is available in our removal guide.
